Parking Unused Characters For Profit

Who do that Voodoo like you do!

We all have them. That level 43 shaman we abandoned or that level 55 warrior that we stopped playing to roll a death knight.

We all have a few characters that simply sit on our character screen and look at us with puppy dog eyes as if asking “Why don't you play with me anymore?”

Today I'm going to be giving a few suggestion on places in the world we can park these alternate characters in order to make gold.

Transmuting in Uldum
If you have an level 75+ alt that has an open profession slot (or a low level or useless profession) consider investing in leveling up Alchemy to 485 in order to get “Transmute: Living Elements”.

Leveling alchemy is a relatively painless process. With herb prices down on many servers it is one of the cheapest professions to level.

Just *another* average day in Uldum.

Be sure to pick up the transmute specialization as you are leveling  Alchemy up. (I recommend the Alchemy leveling guide available at wow-professions.com.)

Once you have Transmute: Living Elements park your alt in Uldum near the mailbox. (See “Maximizing Your Living Elements Daily Transmute” for tips on getting to Uldum)

Once in Uldum simply mail your alt Volatile Life and have them mail back the Volatile Air they transmute every 24 hours. I tend to mail mine when I get a 200 stack.

Being a transmute specced alchemist you will also proc a few extra random volatiles along with the Volatile Air. Extra gold is never a bag thing.

Vendor Recipes
Parking an alt at a recipe vendor that is either limited-quantity, out-of-the-way (or both) is a great way to make gold.

Players often need recipes that are sold by various vendors around Azeroth. Many are willing to pay a premium for them (either because they want to save the trip or are unaware where they are sold).

Below are some of the more common recipe locations where you could park an alt.

-Lorelae Wintersong in Moonglade sells many limited-quantity recipes including the ever-popular Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod among others. (See "Gold-Making Classics: Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod" )

Lower City in Shattrath is recipe central.

The Outlands holds many recipes that players need to help level professions or to help them collect all profession recipes.

To get your started here are a few examples of recipes available at Shattath vendors.

The above list is just a small part of the recipes available at Outlands vendors. Head out there and explore. You'll find many more valuable recipes worth camping.

Vendor Pets
Many players like collecting pets and enjoy the convenience of being able purchase them from the auction house.

You can use this to your advantage by camping an alt near out-of-the-way pet vendors. Here are a few I'd recommend.

Yarlyn Amberstill in Dun Morogh sells the Rabbit Crate (Snowshoe). (Have fun chasing her down!)

"Shop Smart..."
My favorite out-of-the-way pet vendors is Dealer Rashaad <Exotic Creatures> who resides at Stormspire in Netherstorm. He sells many pets including the following which are only available from him.

Rare Spawn Pets
A great way to make gold is to park your unused alt near the spawn location for a rare spawn pets such as raptor hatchling nests.

There are quite a few hatchling nests you could choose to camp. I've listed a few below.

-Darting Hatchling from Dart's Nest found in Dustwallow Marsh.
-Leaping Hatchling from Takk's Nest found in The Barrens.
-Ravasaur Hatchling from Ravasaur Matriarch's Nest found in Un'goro Crater.
-Razormaw Hatchling from Razormaw Matriarch's Nest found in The Wetlands.

Log into them periodically to check for eggs and remember that the eggs can often spawn in more than one location so learn them all.

I would park them until they have collected a few and then run them to the nearest mailbox then back to camping.

I quick check of The Undermine Journal for these pets shows them often selling in the 100-1000 gold range. Definitely worth camping for some good gold.

A face only a mother could love.

Rare Spawn Mobs

Faid recently posted a great article and video about farming a rare spawn in Blackrock Mountain named The Behemoth. (See “The Behemoth: The Lazy Man's LBRS” on Nerf Faids.)

The Behemoth currently has a 6-7 minute respawn timer and has a 100% chance to drop the Vilerend Slicer which can be disenchanted into a Large Brilliant Shard.

Large Brilliant Shards are used in many expensive enchants for heirloom items players use while leveling and can go for decent gold on many servers.

Now You
These are just a few examples of how you can utilize an unused alt to help make gold. If you think hard enough I'm sure you can think of many more.

One thing I try to instil in those who I help is to always be thinking of new and interesting ways to make gold.

Reading a tip from a gold-making blog is great but once you actively start looking for your own ways to make gold you will become a gold-making leader and not a just a follower.

By the time tips or tricks filter onto the gold-making blogs they are often common knowledge and therefore apt to be used by not only you but your competition as well.

Critical thinking is the best gold-making tool there is. Spend time every day sharpening those skills by actively engaging your brain by thinking and scheming up new plans.

Guest Posting
One of the best ways I've been able to exercise my critical thinking is by writing about gold-making. Power Word: Gold is always looking for guest bloggers.

If you would like to become a guest writer on Power Word: Gold I'd recommend picking a simple and specific gold making idea to start writing about it.

Once you have a well written post send it to us for comments and suggestions. If we feel it's a good fit for Power Word: Gold we will schedule it for a future guest post slot. Our email address can be found on the sidebar under “Contact”.

Talking Points
  • Where do you currently have your alts parked?
  • Where are some places not mentioned in the article where you could see profit potential for a parked alt?
  • What is your most unused alt and why? (Poor alts.)

  1. Regarding the guest posting, I've never received an answer to that last mail.
It's possible that it got lost in a junk/spam folder or something, so be sure to check those, too. I'm just saying it because it has happened before!
