Today on the inaugural edition of "Gold-Making Classics" we are going to be discussing one if the first techniques I ran across while starting my quest for WoW wealth: Selling the Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod.
Goblin Engineers: Use the Dimensional Ripper - Everlook (4 hour cooldown) and fly to Moonglade from Winterspring.
The Item
Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod is a must-have formula for anyone leveling up Enchanting as it is a required part of their enchanting rod progression.
Where to Buy
Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod It is sold in limited quantity (1) by Lorelae Wintersong at the inn in Moonglade. Before Cataclysm the easiest wat to get this pattern was by being a druid. While this is still true today there are many alternative ways to get the item for non-druids.

Getting to Moonglade
Below are a few methods for getting to Moonglade to pick up the pattern (listed from fastest to slowest).

Druids (level 10+): Use the Teleport: Moonglade spell to get to Moonglade. Use your hearthstone to get back. (I personally tend to do this every time my druid hearths since there is no real reason not to.)

Non-Druids (Level 80+): If you have access to the Mount Hyjal teleporter from Stormwind or Orgrimmar take the teleporter to Mount Hyjal and use a flying mount or flight path to Moonglade.
Alliance Non-Druids (under 80): Take the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Ruttheran Village (Darnassus) and use a flying mount or flight path to Moonglade.
Horde Non-Druids (under 80): From Orgimmar use a flying mount or flight path to Moonglade.
Alliance Non-Druids (under 80): Take the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Ruttheran Village (Darnassus) and use a flying mount or flight path to Moonglade.

Why It Sells
Being able to pick this recipe right from the AH means that players can keep leveling Enchanting rather than running around the world to buy a formula. It sells because it's convenient. One man's laziness is another's profit.
Pricing
As you can see from this recent Undermine Journal "Other Markets" scatter plot for Formula: Runed Arcanite Rod the prices seem to peak around 150g with the average hovering at 75g and the majority clustering around the 30-50g range.
In my experience the pricing tends to go up when less players are selling and down when more get into the market. Even at 30 gold it's still profitable for a formula that can be picked up for 2 gold 20 silver from a vendor.
Why It's a Classic
This item is a classic simply because it has continued to be a consistent source of income for me year after year. As long as it is a requirement for leveling and is only available from a vendor in an out-of-the-way location it will remain that way.
Check your server's auction house for pricing on these and you just might find a new way to make a little pocket change day in and day out.

My personal favourite vendor items are the simple trade goods. Things like vanishing power & dust of disappearance, jeweler's settings, rune thread, etc.
ReplyDeleteA lot of them can usually be found a few steps from the AH, but the perfect storm of laziness and ignorance = 500% profit. That never gets old.
I remember a few months ago during the World event ,wend we got a teleport scroll to there, i made some Sales of that same formula ,i think I even post a blog post about that, but that was then, but now have found a even better money maker that one I will tell you what it is very soon :)
ReplyDeleteI think you can guess what my favorite is. I'm amazed that it retains its selling power and that nobody else competes in this area.
ReplyDeleteI was also a fan of the Tuxedo patterns. They don't seem to be as strong of a money maker as they used to be, however; more people are aware of them and drive the market down.
